I'm Gnashing at the Bit Bored

12/31/2023

I've decided to break down my year into quarters. I've been ambitious in the past and that's led me to tears when I can't meet my goals. So instead, I'm taking goals that are a little vague, but very measureable. (Yes, I'm familiar with the SMART goals. No, they don't work for me. Thanks for the advice in advance.)

Any way, I'm looking forward to the new year. I'm still on medical leave. Nothing serious, just a long recovery period. That being said, I'm so freaking bored.

The good news is I've picked up some old hobbies, including writing! Ever since I started my current antidepressent, I avoided writing. I'm rusty for sure but I want to get back into it. I've written about a thousand words this past week so that's encouraging.

I'm also breaking down my video and podcast publishing by quarter. I'm only going to plan to publish a video/podcast once a quarter. That's a lot more attainable for me. Also, what's the point of doing all this if it isn't fun? I'm hear for good food, good friends, and good times. Stressing out over self-imposed and arbritrary deadlines is silly at best.

The two biggest new years resolutions (aside from the ones that involve personal stuff) is 1) get overly invested in a local shrub and 2) write a fanfiction.

I want to buy houseplants but I'm moving across the country in a few months so I'm avoiding bringing in more material things. Hence, the shrub would be a great side investment. That's also why I'm a book-buy freeze as well. Thank goodness for libraries!

That brings me to my second resolution. I miss writing fanfic and being a part of a bigger community. I love being on authortube and booktok and bookstagram and all the rest, but I don't always feel comfortable sharing my original work. I think fanfic is a good middle ground because I really did like doing it when I was younger. I feel like fanfic can be the no-stakes writing that I need to reset. The only problem is that I have no idea what fandom I'd write for. I haven't been involved in fandom since I was a teenager.

If anyone has any suggestions for an active, friendly fandoms with source material from the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, or speculative fiction please reach out!

I've also re-opened my Fiverr account, where you can find my current pricing for editing and sensitivity reading services.

Happy New Year!
